Dental Industry's Women Leadership Celebrated

8th Mar 17

Summary —

On International Women's Day the nation's peak business organisation representing dental product manufacturers and suppliers, the Australian Dental Industry Association (ADIA), has taken the opportunity to publicly acknowledge the contribution of its women leaders.

Key Issues For The Dental Industry —

Australia's dental industry has benefited greatly by the contribution of its women leadership and ADIA has taken the opportunity to acknowledge their contribution on International Women's Day, 8 March 2018.

A majority of the ADIA State Branches have female leadership, these being New South Wales (Tanya McRae - Dental Installations), South Australia (Leonie Mackenize - 3M Oral Care) and Western Australia (Wendy Walker - 3M Oral Care). The ADIA State Branches are a vital component of ADIA's member engagement architecture and ensure that ADIA receives the advice and guidance required to stay attuned to its members.

ADIA is a strong advocate for reforms to ensure that the medical regulatory framework for dental products is based on a risk management approach designed to ensure public health and safety, while at the same time freeing industry from any unnecessary regulatory burden. ADIA's success in this area owes a lot to Pam Clark (Cattani Australia) who chairs the ADIA-DRC Dental Regulation Committee. Over 2006-10 Ms Clark served as ADIA National President, a tenure that saw her become the longest-serving person in this role for more than thirty years.

For nearly three decades ADIA has provided the training programmes that ensures dental product manufacturers and suppliers have access to a skilled workforce. The task of ensuring that ADIA's continuing professional development program remains contemporary falls to the ADIA-ISC Industry Skills Committee that's chaired effectively by Jo Stanbury (One Dental).

A major focus for ADIA is to ensure that Australia's dental product manufacturing sector operates in an environment in which new and innovative patient treatment options can be developed and produced locally. The advice and guidance available ADIA was greatly strengthened when the Chief Executive Officer of the Australia's largest dental product manufacturer (Samantha Cheetham, SDI Limited) joined the ADIA Board.

ADIA, and the broader dental industry, has been well served by the significant and lasting contribution of its women leaders - on International Women's Day it's appropriate that this be acknowledged.
